About Patna

Patna, the capital of Bihar, is located on the southern bank of the river Ganges. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. The city is a major agricultural hub and a center of trade. It is also an important pilgrimage center for Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains.

History

Historically known as Pataliputra, it was the capital of the Magadha Empire under the Haryanka, Nanda, Mauryan, Shunga, Gupta, and Pala empires. It was a seat of learning and fine arts. The city was also the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.

Economy

Patna has a fast-growing economy with a strong focus on FMCG, service sector, and agriculture. It is a major trading center for grains, sugarcane, sesame, and Patna rice.
