Maha Shivaratri: The Great Night of Shiva
Maha Shivaratri, which translates to 'the Great Night of Shiva', is a major Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Shiva. In Bihar, the festival is observed with great fervor and devotion. Devotees observe a day-long fast and stay awake all night, singing hymns and prayers in praise of Shiva. This festival shares a devotional spirit with Janmashtami and is one of the most important Festivals of Bihar.,Shiva temples across the state, such as the Garib Sthan Mandir in Muzaffarpur and Ashok Dham in Lakhisarai, are elaborately decorated and witness a massive influx of devotees. People offer milk, water, bael leaves, and fruits to the Shivalinga. A unique aspect of the celebration in some parts is the offering of 'bhang' (cannabis), which is associated with Lord Shiva.,The festival is a powerful expression of faith, symbolizing the overcoming of darkness and ignorance. The night-long vigil and prayers create a deeply spiritual atmosphere, as devotees seek the blessings of the great ascetic god. The Singheshwar Mela is a major fair held during this time.
