Ganga Devi was one of the most celebrated artists of the Mithila painting tradition. She was a master of the 'Katchni' (line drawing) style. She was one of the few artists from India to participate in the 'Festival of India' in the United States. Her work is known for its intricate detail and narrative quality, with one of her most famous series being a depiction of her life story. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1984 for her contributions to art.
