About Siwan

Siwan is a district in western Bihar, known for its significant contribution to the Indian independence movement. It is the birthplace of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.

History

Historically part of the Kosala kingdom, Siwan played a key role in the 1857 revolt and the Non-Cooperation Movement. 'Siwan' means 'border' in Bhojpuri.

Economy

The district relies on agriculture and remittances from migrant workers, particularly from Gulf countries. Sugar cane is a major cash crop.
