History
The district was part of the ancient Vajji Republic. It is named after Muzaffar Khan, an Amil (Revenue Officer) under the British dynasty. It played a significant role in the Indian independence movement.
Economy
The economy is largely agricultural, driven by litchi and mango production. It also has sugar mills and a thermal power plant at Kanti. It is a major commercial hub for the region.
