About Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur is famous as the 'Litchi Kingdom' due to its production of the Shahi Litchi. It is situated on the banks of the perennial Burhi Gandak River and serves as a gateway to North Bihar and Nepal.

History

The district was part of the ancient Vajji Republic. It is named after Muzaffar Khan, an Amil (Revenue Officer) under the British dynasty. It played a significant role in the Indian independence movement.

Economy

The economy is largely agricultural, driven by litchi and mango production. It also has sugar mills and a thermal power plant at Kanti. It is a major commercial hub for the region.
